How the bill adds up

Gold value is the weight in grams times today's rate per gram for the purity. Making charges come as wastage (VA), a percentage of the gold value; as an amount per gram; as a flat amount; or as a mix. Tamil Nadu and Kerala bills often show VA and a per-gram charge together. Stones are added at their price, and GST is 3% of the whole piece. Each line is rounded to the rupee.

For example, 10 g of 22K at today's estimated ₹13,538/g is ₹1,35,380 of gold. A 12% VA adds ₹16,246, GST adds ₹4,549, and the bill comes to ₹1,56,175.
